Heather Leigh is an author and aspiring speaker located in Cleveland, Ohio.
Hello!
My name is Heather Leigh, and I am an author of nine books (more forthcoming). I graduated from Cleveland State University in December 2013 with a Bachelor’s in Creative Writing and started self-publishing books several years later. In August 2020, I changed career paths and graduated from Malone University with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Since then, I have been working in various roles within the mental health community and have become an advocate for destigmatizing mental illness. In February 2025, I graduated from Walden University with a second Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology.
All of my books carry a theme that involves struggles with mental illness in some way, shape, or form. Whether it is a main character struggling with their own mental illness or suffering the repercussions of another person’s illness in their life.
Personally, I have been diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Bipolar I Disorder. I take medication every day to manage my symptoms, and I see a counselor myself regularly because having a mental illness is not easy, but it doesn’t have to be the thing that defines you.
My hope is that my writing will inspire others who share these struggles or have been abused in some way to speak up about their experiences and show the world that mental illness and abuse are not the end of the story; they’re the beginning.
